Client: Organization for Implementing Public and Government Buildings and Installations
Location: West Azerbaijan Province, Miandoab County
Date: 2019
Project Function: Healthcare
The project site is L-shaped and located in the eastern part of Miandoab city, adjacent to the southern side of the sugar factory and the eastern lands of the Abbasi Hospital site. It is worth mentioning that in the future, the old hospital building will be demolished, and the new hospital will replace the existing one.
Due to the climatic conditions (cold and dry) and spatial limitations of the project site, the hospital’s design process was centralized and compact from the outset, with a concept that utilized the site’s lines, maximizing the usable space in an integrated vertical form.
Another key feature considered in the design of the hospital building is rounding the sharp corners of the structure, which not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the design but also gives the form a more aerodynamic shape in terms of climatic adaptation.
The overall plan of the 200-bed Miandoab hospital building is divided into three main masses. The emergency entrance is marked in orange, and the clinic entrance on the other side is marked in yellow, with the main entrance located in the middle at the curved and prominent part of the building.
By creating a difference in height, not only does it contribute to the volumetric beauty of the project, but it also provides the necessary lighting for functions that require natural light.
In line with this goal, two central voids were created in the elevated areas of the building’s volume to serve as central atriums, providing a pleasant view and appropriate lighting, which greatly helps to soften the healthcare environment.
