Location: Lorestan Province – Khorramabad City
Date: 2015
Project Use: Medical
The designated location for the design of the Martyrs of Nomads Khorramabad Hospital is situated in the eastern part of Khorramabad and in the northern section of the Lorestan University of Medical Sciences site. The general shape of the land is a north-south rectangular square with an angle of about 30 degrees relative to the east. Additionally, there is a 6% slope from north to south across the site.
The extension design of the Khorramabad hospital, considering the existing building and the north-south orientation of the site, which is contrary to the ideal angle for this region, presents a slope in the northern part of the land. This condition imposes constraints on the design starting from the northern part of the existing building and necessitates more excavation.
To achieve a proper orientation relative to the ideal angle and sunlight exposure from the south for the medical sections, as well as to direct the prevailing regional winds, several masses with east-west extensions were created for designing the hospital wards. These are structured in a cross-shaped form separated by the slope, which is considered suitable for hospital functionality.
Horizontal connections between the east-west medical masses on each floor are established through a main artery-like corridor, from which the entrances to various parts of the hospital branch out.
The arrangement and location of the different entrances on the ground floor are designed in such a way as to ensure access to the emergency department, located on the south side of the building. Compared to the main entrances and clinics, which are placed relatively far to the east and on different elevations due to the slope of the land, access to the emergency department requires considering bridges, site design, and ramps. This design approach enhances the readability and prominence of the emergency entrance.
